Intuit Dome

CLIENT: Schuff Steel
LOCATION: Inglewood, California, USA
COMPLETION DATE: 2024
project overview:

Intuit Dome, a state-of-the-art arena in Inglewood, California, is the new home of the Los Angeles Clippers. This 18,000-seat venue is a testament to modern architectural and engineering prowess. DBM Vircon played a pivotal role in bringing this ambitious project to life by providing steel and rebar modeling.

DBM Vircon’s Scope of Work:

DBM Vircon played a pivotal role in the steel and rebar modeling of Intuit Dome. The team’s scope of work encompassed a variety of complex tasks. A key component involved the development of detailed structural models showing the interaction of key concrete and steel elements, essential for ensuring constructability and the seamless integration of these components. To optimize the construction process, close collaboration with precast concrete suppliers was crucial. DBM Vircon’s modeling and detailing teams ensured proper support for precast concrete panels and coordinated steel embedment locations.

The project demanded intricate coordination with multiple trades. The team worked closely with the scoreboard contractor to ensure structural integrity, accessibility, and safety. Additionally, interface with the ETFE/PTFE panel supplier was essential for coordinating the diagrid support structure with the façade elements, allowing for the prefabrication of both steel components for accurate on-site assembly. To guarantee a watertight building envelope, careful attention was given to sealing and waterproofing details.

Ensuring structural integrity was paramount, DBM Vircon employed advanced modeling techniques, including the development of detailed steel beam models to identify and resolve rebar clashes with embedded steel anchor bolts from the superstructure. This proactive approach prevented construction delays and maintained the overall structural soundness of the arena.

Project Highlights & Challenges:

Constructing a complex structure like Intuit Dome within an accelerated timeline presented significant challenges. DBM Vircon successfully addressed these challenges by incorporating constructability into the design from the outset. The team’s ability to identify and resolve rebar clashes with embedded anchor bolts through advanced modeling techniques was a project highlight, demonstrating a commitment to structural integrity.
