Environmental, Social and Governance
Sustainability, social responsibility, and risk management at the core of how DBM Vircon operates. We are now working to better articulate our current and desired position in these areas and others in the form of an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Report. Beyond how we are tracking internally, we are also working to understand how our services support our customers’ efforts in ESG. As part of our journey to a verifiable ESG reporting framework, we are developing a roadmap to continually improve, and provide greater stakeholder trust and value. Further updates on this roadmap and our progress will be shared on our website as they are published.
Environmental
The built environment industry has a huge impact on global greenhouse gas and carbon emissions, accounting for ~75% and ~37% globally, respectively. Many of our clients are actively taking steps to lower their carbon footprints. We are clarifying where our services help our clients to reduce their emissions and improve their sustainability.
We are also working to collect data to quantify our energy usage and our overall approach to sustainability. By qualifying both our ability to influence our clients’ reduction in carbon footprint, and knowing our own, we be able to begin sharing our improvements over time.
Some of the ways our services assist our customers in improving sustainability are:
Better Layouts – Early engagement with DBM Vircon produces models that help position and orient the facility for maximum daylighting, drainage benefits, airflow, etc.
Minimized Waste – By producing precise models and drawings, our involvement helps achieve accurate material procurement and reduced materials waste.
Optimized Design – Our models provide fabrication and construction feedback to engineers during design development stages so optimal design can be achieved.
Reduced Rework – Employing our BIM coordination services from pre-planning through construction ensures streamlined processes between all stakeholders, resulting in reduced field change orders and rework.
Streamlined Lifecycle Planning – Our as-built models can arm facility and asset managers with information needed for successful maintenance management in the future.
Social
DBM Vircon has several initiatives in place which underpin the social element of ESG. These include our approach to:
- Inclusion and Diversity
- Reconciliation Action Plans
- Health and Safety
- Data Privacy
- Training
- Advancement opportunities and flexible working arrangements
- Community Engagement
- Internal Engagement
Governance
Corporate Governance relates to how a company operates internally – transparency and accuracy of our accounting, how we approach ethics, conflicts of interest, and whistleblowing, etc. We are already well developed in these areas and will continue to monitor and report these as per our parent company (DBM Global; Securities Exchange Commission) and industry reporting obligations.
DBM Vircon is also ISO 9001 accredited. ISO 9001 is the world’s most widely recognized Quality Management System (QMS) and is the international quality system of choice. Being accredited ensures that we monitor and manage quality across all operations, outlines ways to achieve, as well as benchmark, consistent performance and service.
