Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

The iconic Guitar Hotel tower at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood has become one of the most recognized landmarks in the world. The 450-ft guitar tower has faces, neck, and strings that resemble two back-to-back guitars. The expansion of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino included new retail and restaurant space, a completely rebuilt Hard Rock Live Showroom and houses 638 luxury guest rooms and suites.

DBM Vircon’s Scope of Work:

Working with Owen Steel, DBM Vircon provided 3D modeling and detailing of the Low Rise Expansion (5,019 tons of steel), Low Rise Remodel (333 tons of steel), East Tower (516 tons of steel), Pool Tower (33 tons of steel), Lucky Street Garage (7 tons of steel), and the Winners Way Garage (84 tons of steel).

DBM Vircon’s scope was to model, detail, apply connections, and supply shop drawings for the following structural and secondary steel members such as:

  • Structural steel column, beams, trusses and braces;
  • Structural steel post, hangers and girts;
  • Elevator support and framing steel;
  • Structural steel canopy and screen walls;
  • Secondary steel support framings such as parapet, lintel frames, skylight and louver supports;
  • Slab edge support bent plates and angles;
  • Slab/Deck support angle and plates, kicker, outriggers, braces and hanger angles;
  • All connection materials required to complete the project;
  • All embeds supporting main steel frame.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Project Highlights & Challenges:

  • Continuous design revisions (approx. 20,000 hours of extra work)
  • Additional work force to service revisions with less impact to the overall schedule
  • Coordination with existing structures and other trades
  • Detailing of trusses with huge cambers on Low Rise Expansion
  • Getting resolution to areas on hold
  • Able to keep up with schedule despite the huge amount of extra work
