The modular package was developed to provide critical cooling control infrastructure for multiple data center campuses across the United States. Designed and modeled by DBM Vircon, the units were prefabricated pump control buildings that played a central role in supporting the mechanical cooling systems essential to hyperscale data center operations.
These modular units were designed to standardize and streamline the delivery of mechanical plant systems, including pump controls, pipe routing, and structural framing. These modular buildings were fabricated off-site by the fabricator based on DBM Vircon’s construction-ready models and shipped to individual campuses in Oregon, Iowa, and Virginia.
Each unit was tailored to its destination site, ensuring that utility connections, access points, and performance specifications aligned with the main facility’s cooling infrastructure. By removing complex MEP construction from the critical path of data center builds, the program significantly reduced installation time and improved commissioning efficiency.
DBM Vircon was responsible for the complete digital design and detailing of the modular buildings, delivering high-precision LOD 400 models for both structural and MEP systems. The team used Tekla and Revit to develop coordinated fabrication packages that enabled off-site construction and minimized field integration challenges.
Working closely with the fabricator, DBM Vircon ensured that the modular units could be rapidly deployed and seamlessly connected to the on-site systems upon arrival. This package demonstrates the power of model-based delivery and modular construction in supporting repeatable, high-performance solutions across multiple data center campuses.
