What is your favourite thing about working for DBM Vircon and the work you do?
Having the chance to build strong personal relationships sits high in my list of favourite things at DBM Vircon. The daily face to face interactions with my peers is really important to me and during our forced isolation during COVID, it hit home to me how much these interactions affect my working day. Whilst getting together over a Teams call helped to stay connected, being back in the office around my colleagues had me feeling more comfortable. Even after being in the industry for so long, I still get excited by being able to see the final product of the projects that I’ve worked on. Each project has its own story and being involved at our level, we know more of the story than most.
How has your career been during your time at DBM Vircon?
Over the 8 years that I’ve been at DBM Vircon, I have had varied roles including modelling, checking, co-ordination and recruiting. All of those roles are quite varied and it is that variety that challenges me to think in different ways. The recruiting of our new cadets has kept me energized in recent times. Being able to see the full cycle of our cadet program is extremely satisfying and seeing all of them mature in their roles makes it all worthwhile.
What are some of your personal and professional achievements?
The flexibility that DBM Vircon allows me has seen me pursue many personal and professional pathways. On a professional note, I don’t have any real achievements on paper but being able to pass on any knowledge is an achievement for me. On the personal side, over the past 7 years I have been coaching various groups of 15-year-old boys in Australian Rules Football. Again, they are challenging but seeing them mature into better young men is extremely rewarding. Having said all of this, being able to raise my two wonderful sons with my wife would have to be my proudest achievement. Any time that we can get away together and create memories is pure gold. Our biennial Exmouth summer trips to soak up the sun, sand and sea sit right up there in the all-time list.
