Life At DBM Vircon: Bruce Dainton

Quality Assurance Tester – Perth

What is your favorite thing about working for DBM Vircon and the work you do?

There are so many positive aspects of working at DBM Vircon it is hard to choose my favourite, but here are a few.

There are always a number of social activities on the go before work, after work, or during the lunch break and sometimes on weekends like cards, table tennis, lawn bowls, ten-pin bowling, morning walks, and an annual weekend trip to Stirling Ranges to walk some popular trails.

Importantly, we always have a variety of small, medium and large projects to work on for a variety of divisions. So far, I have worked on several large mining projects, a couple of small commercial projects, and one large commercial US project in addition to a large oil and gas project I worked on for our Digital Engineering division.

Also, numerous opportunities to ‘up skill’ via training courses.

“Everyone is always so genuinely friendly and helpful. Working with a variety of business, project management and engineering systems can be a little challenging at times, particularly if it’s been a while since using a system where many upgrades have occurred, there is always someone ready to help you get back up and running.”

How has your career been during your time at DBM Vircon?

My career has definitely blossomed since joining DBM Vircon. I started as a checker in 2017, and since then, in addition to performing important checking tasks, I have also taken on project and model coordination roles. Earlier this year a coordination opportunity became available in our Technology division which looked too exciting to ignore so I applied for it and was fortunately offered the role which is living up to expectations.

What are some of your personal and professional achievements?

Blacksmith trade, TAFE engineering qualifications, competed in Australian and New Zealand National hang-gliding competitions, played 1st grade rugby union, finished my MBA, primary school P&C president, high school P&C vice president as well as basketball coach. Wife and two kids doing well academically and a nice house.
