Building information modeling (BIM) is a hot topic in Australia, and as the Perth Stadium is opening its doors and the Queen’s Wharf project in Brisbane is demolishing city blocks, who better to discuss BIM than a highly-respected BIM manager from DBM Vircon?
The DBM Vircon group, which services the industrial, commercial, and infrastructure industries, provides BIM management and consultancy services for a number of landmark projects around Australia. With a client list including, FMG, BHP, Rio Tinto, Multiplex, the John Holland Group and Destination Brisbane Consortium just to name a few.
Nick Rostin was invited in as a guest speaker at the recent ASSA ABLOY national sales conference in Melbourne, as ASSA ABLOY’s sales team was looking to gain a greater understanding of the shift in the construction industry and how consultants and contractors are moving from 2D design to “3D” and “BIM” processes.
“It was an absolute pleasure presenting to the ASSA ABLOY team, the group are clearly very interested in maintaining industry leading practice, which was only highlighted by some of the technical curve balls thrown my way at question time,” states Nick.
DBM Vircon has its finger on the pulse of the BIM world, and it was more than apparent as Nick showcased the intricate details that go into the design and construction of large scale commercial projects; from clash detection to 4D, 5D, virtual reality applications, detailed modelling and more.
Understanding these processes are critical for manufacturers, such as ASSA ABLOY. The sales team at ASSA ABLOY utilise a BIM software tool called Openings Studio as its hardware specification writing tool. This tool integrates directly with other BIM design software, such as Autodesk’s Revit, to seamlessly coordinate and transfer project data for complete, accurate door hardware schedules and specifications.
“Nick Rostin’s presentation gave the entire ASSA ABLOY specification team great insight into what the future for construction management will look like and how BIM modelling and co-ordination effects the entire project, not just door hardware,” says Ben Montgomery, National Sales Manager – Specification for Australia.
Openings Studio and ASSA ABLOY have created a plugin that alleviates stress and inaccuracies to help facilitate design and construction. After following along with Nick’s presentation and understanding the scope of 3D construction, ASSA ABLOY has never been more confident that Openings Studio is a unique application that will allow architects, builders, distributors, and facility mangers to achieve their project goals, from LOD 100 to LOD 500, from design thru the building life cycle, Openings Studio has a solution for it all!
We have extreme respect for DBM Vircon and their ability to manage the constantly changing BIM Landscape. Thank you again to Nick and DBM Vircon for their willingness to speak in front of our team! We look forward to developing a strong relationship with DBM Vircon as we work toward a common goal – delivering accurate 3D design and modelling to our clients.
