Two data hall buildings on a new Alabama campus, totalling 6,210 tons of structural steel. DBM Vircon delivered the detailing package in 17 months while adapting to a change in delivery workflow mid-program.

Data Center Buildings Project Overview:

The Huntsville campus extended a build program DBM Vircon had already supported across two earlier phases in Georgia, with the fabrication scope transitioning from Schuff Steel to GrayWolf during delivery. Scope covered two data hall buildings; the administration building was delivered by others, making the interface documentation between packages a point of close attention.

One of the two halls was again intended as a replication of a previously detailed building. DBM Vircon proposed a delivery workflow to capture that repetition and shorten the modeling effort. The project team elected to proceed differently, and the resulting approach carried considerably more rework than a true replication would have required.

The team absorbed that rework inside the original program. Detailing for both halls was completed with limited movement against the schedule the client had set at award, and the fabrication and erection sequence was preserved. Where the preferred approach and the most efficient path diverged, the schedule commitment was treated as the fixed point.
