The Boro

The Boro, located in suburbs of Washington DC, is a premier 1.7 million square-foot mixed-use and luxury residential complex that will serve as a ‘Superblock’ in the area. The project houses the biggest Whole Foods store in North America.

The Boro Project Details:

DBM Vircon partnered with Gerdau North America to provide rebar detailing for this mega project entailing almost 9,000 tons of concrete reinforcing.  DBM Vircon detailers put in over 16,000 man-hours and produced over 1,100 drawings on this mega project.

Project Award:

The Boro was awarded the Commercial Real Estate Development Association’s (NAIOP) Award of Excellence for Best Building in 2017.

The Boro Project Highlights & Challenges:

There were several challenges that were faced while executing this project including:

• The pour sequences varied element wise as well as level wise at each floor, which made bar take-offs task tricky and tough
• The project consisted of black and epoxy bars, laps and mechanical splices, vertical and sloping columns and floors with varying elevations that made detailing very challenging
• Numerous revision and field based RFIs made the revision work difficult
