Audi Field (DC United Stadium)

project overview:

DC United Stadium, officially named Audi Field, is a soccer-specific stadium built in Buzzard Point in Washington, D.C. The state of-the-art facility has capacity of 20,000 fans with 31 luxury suites, a bike valet, and 500,000 total sq. ft. of mixed-use retail and residential space on site. The stadium is used for a variety of sporting and cultural events, community activities and concerts.

DBM Vircon’s Scope of Work:

The project included 3D BIM modeling and detailing of 6,100 tons of structural steel work it was originally quoted as a traditional detailing project however was required to be completed as a design assist project.

Audi Field Highlights & Challenges:

  • DBM Vircon worked closely with the design team to aid in the completion of the connection design adding to the pressure of what was already a tight schedule
  • The constant design changes and late connection design required a big effort from the team to mitigate delays
  • DBM Vircon’s involvement in the development of the connections ,collaboration with the design team and there revision control processes helped ensure the project was delivered on schedule.
