The third data hall on an established Georgia campus, delivered alongside a dedicated administration building. DBM Vircon detailed more than 5,100 tons of structural steel and absorbed a design change of more than 60% without surrendering the original program.
Building 3 was released to DBM Vircon as a repeat. The intent was to replicate a data hall already detailed on the same campus, carrying the existing model forward largely unchanged and compressing the detailing period accordingly.
The design that followed was substantially different. More than 60% of the structure changed during delivery — a scale of revision that would ordinarily reset a detailing program to the start and push the fabrication release date out by months.
Rather than restart, DBM Vircon reworked the model in parallel with live production. Revisions were sequenced so unaffected zones continued releasing to the shop while changed areas were resolved, keeping steel flowing through fabrication throughout the change cycle. The package was completed with only limited movement against the original schedule, protecting both Schuff Steel’s shop loading and the owner’s speed-to-market target.
It is the kind of outcome that depends on how a model is built before anyone knows it will need to change.
