SoFi Stadium

CLIENT: Schuff Steel
LOCATION: Inglewood, California, USA
COMPLETION DATE: 2020
project overview:

SoFi Stadium was designed by HKS Architects with the Engineer of Record Walter P. Moore. The design team worked very closely with the steel team, comprised of Schuff Steel and DBM Vircon in a collaborative design assist process to ensure fabrication and constructability of the large and complex roof structure.

LA Stadium & Entertainment District Project Details:

The project’s complex roof design required a plated boxed compression ring with large bi-directional tensioned cables crossing high above the field below, that also support the oculus, a central circular video screen that can been viewed from all stadium seating. Additionally, it features a fixed, translucent ETFE roof—designed to cover both the stadium and an adjacent pedestrian plaza. The stadium bowl is designed to have open sides and will seat up to 70,240 spectators for most events, with the ability to expand by 30,000 additional seats for larger events.

DBM Vircon’s Scope of Work:

DBM Vircon’s scope included the roof steelwork, as well as modeling and detailing services for the extensive on-site temporary steelwork that supported the preassembly of the large elements that were to be lifted into place by one of the largest capacity cranes in the world.  DBM Vircon also worked directly with Moore Construction Engineering (MXE) to construct an LOD 400 Connected Model for the performance venue portion of the stadium.

DBM Vircon’s preconstruction input and detailing execution was a critical element to the successful fabrication and erection of this very large and complex construction project. These types of iconic projects have generated a reputation that our team is very proud to be a part of.

DBM Vircon was awarded the 2020 Tekla BIM Award in the category of Sports and Recreation for Sofi Stadium.
